Experience

Managing Editor, Special Projects, The Brooklyn Daily Eagle | June 2020 – Present

Promoted to Managing Editor, Special Projects in December 2022

  • Write, curate, and edit the Bluedot Living Brooklyn newsletter bi-weekly. Manage and maintain the vitality of the Brooklyn Bluedot Living website and social media for an audience of 60,000 subscribers.

  • Keep a team of 16 on task and on time for the daily print edition, daily newsletters, daily web publishing, and social media. Work with freelancers to make sure content is delivered on time and under budget. 

  • Manage all MailChimp audiences and newsletters across the Brooklyn Eagle and Bluedot Living Brooklyn.

  • Assign, budget, and edit assignments for writers and freelancers covering urban sustainability, both for Bluedot Living and for the Brooklyn Eagle. 

  • Built and maintain a network of freelancers and sources for future stories.

  • Designed and implemented many organizational charting and filing systems to be initiated in the process of publishing content across the Eagle's print and digital editions.

  • Generate reports from Google Analytics and MailChimp to find audience trends, then use those trends to inform future content.

  • Created and implemented an editorial pipeline to bridge the organization between print teams and digital teams, reducing print production time by an average of 3 hours daily.

  • Assigned and edited arts and entertainment stories.

  • Managed the flow of online content, ensuring that SEO and digital best practices were used across all staff.

  • Maintained institutional memory by creating how-to guides for multiple different positions and tasks.

  • Delegated tasks to other employees when a member of the team took PTO.

  • Doubled website content through the organization and management of content.

Oversaw a team of 16 to produce a printed edition of BackMatter Magazine from start to finish.

  • Set up a comprehensive organization system on AirTable, Google Drive, and Slack for all departments.

  • Managed the communication between design, podcasting, and editorial, and participated in planning meetings within departments.

  • Regularly conferred with the Editor-in-Chief to develop strategies, detail production timelines, and stay within budget.

  • Assisted with article acquisition in content selection and freelance writer referrals.

  • Hosted a team-wide workshop on copy editing and created a style guide.

Contributing Writer, MUD Magazine | September 2021 – May 2022

After completing the Editorial Internship, I was invited to stay on the team as a contributing writer and editor​ in December of 2021. Most articles were pitched ideas, and some were commissioned by MUD's Editor-In-Chief.

Previous role as an Editorial Intern:

  • Worked with a team of four staff writers. Assigned stories to staff writers, managed pitches, and kept a consistent publication schedule.

  • Edited 3-4 pieces per week for structure, flow, and grammar, while matching MUD's unique voice and style.

  • Encouraged writers to push beyond their comfort and into more complex topics. Occasionally contributed to the magazine.

Copy Editor, WhoWhatWhy | September 2020 – February 2022
  • Copy edited articles, social media posts, newsletters, and podcast transcripts for linguistic clarity and correctness using an in-house style guide, the AP stylebook, and Merriam-Webster; fact-checked dates, names, and citations.

  • Lead copy editor for 2020 presidential election debates live-tweeting — fact-checked and edited 10-20 tweets per hour during debates.

Commentary Section Editor, The McGill Daily | September 2019–May 2020

Editor of the Commentary section of The McGill Daily. Responsibilities included finding, curating, editing, and organizing articles from contributors and preparing them for publication, and then publishing both in print and online. Duties to the editorial board required drafting editorial pitches, committing to production nights (even if they ran until 5 am), and a strong teamwork mindset.
